Smakula involved in it's construction. The natural finished mahogany neck has a scale ebony fretboard with nicely engraved mother-of-pearl inlay. The 11 diameter rim is one of Peter H. Smakula's masterpieces. Using an early 1900's Fairbanks Electric banjo as a model, PHS re-created that legendary scalloped tonering, full spinover construction with perhaps a little more precision. The tone is dynamic with a clarity that is perfect for melody playing. The original owner didn't play it much. There are a few chips in the lacquer, but otherwise nearly new looking.
